Message From Our Parish Priest

Dear Beloved Friends in Christ, As we wave these palms today and shout "Hosanna," we are not just reenacting a historical parade. Palm Sunday symbolizes a profound celebration of choosing smallness, humility, and a deep connection to the earth. As we embark on our journey into Holy Week, let us reflect on three core themes.

The King on a Borrowed Beast

St. Francis was captivated by the "poverty and humility of our Lord." Jesus does not enter Jerusalem on a warhorse or a golden chariot; He arrives on a borrowed donkey. This is the Gospel of the Little Way. It reminds us that God’s power is found in simplicity, not in status or possessions. What "status symbols" can we lay down at the feet of Christ today?

The Praise of Sister Creation

Notice how nature participates in this liturgy. The people didn't just use their voices; they used the Earth—palm branches and leafy boughs. St. Francis saw all of creation as a choir. When we hold these palms, we are holding our "Sister Palms." They remind us that our faith is not detached from the world, but deeply rooted in our care for the Common Home. Let these branches be a sign of our commitment to cherish everything God has made.

From "Hosanna" to the Cross

Today’s liturgy is unique because it begins with shouting "Hosanna" and ends with the somber reading of the Passion. The true joy is found in remaining faithful even when the cheers turn into jeers. This week, we are called not just to follow the "Popular Jesus," but the "Crucified Jesus" who gives everything for love.

Let us pray with St. Francis of Assisi

"Most High, glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me true faith, certain hope, and perfect charity, sense and knowledge, Lord, that I may carry out Your holy and true command."

As we enter this Holy Week, may we walk with the humility of the donkey, the vibrance of the palm, and the sacrificial love of Jesus.
